Explosion Suspect Pleads Not Guilty in Colorado Springs Arson Case

Colorado Springs, Colorado – A man accused of causing an explosion in downtown Colorado Springs has entered a plea of not guilty to eight charges, including arson, criminal mischief, controlled substance possession, and possession or use of explosives. The incident occurred in January on East Costilla Street, just west of Memorial Park.

According to reports, surveillance footage allegedly shows the man, identified as Edward Kiley, setting off the explosive device from a nearby parking lot. Investigators were able to link Kiley to the crime as the truck in the parking lot matched his. Kiley has been out on bond after posting $10,000, court records show.

On January 23, police arrested Kiley, 69, following an investigation into the explosion which indicated the use of an explosive device. A search warrant executed a week later at Kiley’s residence led to the discovery of bomb-making materials including plastic tubing, black powder, and a fuse. Arrest papers also reveal Kiley’s previous arrests in connection to explosions in 2011 and 2018, leading to prison sentences in both cases.

The Colorado Springs Police Department suspects Kiley may be linked to other explosions and is seeking assistance from the public in gathering more information. Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact CSPD at (719) 444-7000, or remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-7867.
