Farmworkers’ Family Sues Mushroom Farm Owner Over Fatal Shooting

Half Moon Bay, California – The owner of mushroom farms in Half Moon Bay faces lawsuits from the family of one of the farmworkers killed in a tragic shooting incident last year. Pedro Felix Romero Perez survived the shooting, but sadly, his brother, Jose, did not. The lawsuits allege that the farm failed to protect its tenants from violent acts, with attorneys pointing out the shooter’s history of violence and a previous shooting on the property.

Chunli Zhao, an employee at the farms, carried out the horrific attack, killing four workers and injuring another at California Terra Garden before moving on to another farm where three more workers lost their lives. The lack of a proper plan to safeguard workers from violence is a focal point of the legal action, highlighting the alleged negligence of California Terra Garden in ensuring a safe working environment for its employees.

According to the attorneys representing the family, California Terra Gardens is being accused of profiting from migrant workers like Pedro and Jose without adequately protecting them from potential dangers. The failure to prioritize the safety of essential workers in the face of challenging working and living conditions has sparked outrage and led to legal action being taken against the farm owner.

A press conference is set to be held to announce the lawsuits against the farm owner, providing a platform for the family’s attorneys to shed light on the case further. The legal proceedings aim to seek justice for the victims of the tragic shooting, holding accountable those responsible for the inadequate protection of workers at the mushroom farms in Half Moon Bay.
