Fatal Shooting at Sumter Convenience Store Parking Lot Leaves One Dead as Police Search for Suspect

Sumter, South Carolina – A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday night in the parking lot of a Sumter convenience store, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man. According to a news release from the Sumter Police Department, Ray’Quan Dontrell Lamont Durant was fatally shot outside of the Red Bay Grocery on Boulevard Road. Police were alerted to the shooting after receiving a report of shots fired shortly after 9:50 p.m.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and rushed Durant to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. The Sumter County Coroner’s office was responsible for informing Durant’s family of the heartbreaking news. A scheduled autopsy on Friday aims to shed light on the circumstances leading to Durant’s tragic demise.

Investigations are still ongoing as Sumter police strive to unravel the events that transpired and determine the identity of the perpetrator.
