Intentional Fire in Palisade Claims Teenage Girl’s Life as Police Discover Suspect’s Fate

Palisade, Colorado – Police revealed on Wednesday that the tragic explosion and fire at an apartment complex in Palisade, Colorado that claimed the life of a teenage girl was intentionally started. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Kloey Weythman, lost her life in the blaze, while the remaining residents of the complex were left displaced, as stated in a news release from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities disclosed that the fire was deliberately ignited using an accelerant and originated in apartment one, rented by 29-year-old Andrew Alderman. The investigation led police to Alderman after discovering incriminating videos on his social media account. The explosion resulted from a large amount of accelerant vapors inside the apartment, with further lab analysis needed to identify the specific chemical used.

Following the tragic incident, investigators determined that Alderman had fled to an area outside Leadville, where he ultimately took his own life. The fire was reported at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, and emergency responders arrived promptly to contain the blaze. By 8 a.m., the fire was mostly extinguished, and authorities began their search for the suspect.

The search for Alderman ended when his vehicle was found near Leadville, and shortly after, his body was discovered. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed. In the aftermath of the fire, all displaced residents were provided with temporary housing, thanks to the efforts of local officials and the American Red Cross who collected donations for the victims.

Fire crews from various departments, including Clifton Fire Protection District and Grand Junction Fire Department, along with law enforcement agencies, responded to the emergency. The community came together to support those affected by the tragedy, showcasing resilience and unity during a difficult time.
