Father of Murdered Teen Calls Killers “Monsters” as They are Named for the First Time

Cheshire, UK – The father of Brianna Ghey, a transgender teenager brutally murdered in a park last February, has spoken out against her killers, referring to them as “a pair of monsters” deserving to be forgotten. Peter Spooner, while reflecting on his daughter’s untimely death, expressed his changed opinion on the decision to release the names of her murderers, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, following the court’s lifting of reporting restrictions.

Spooner recalled the “brutality” of his daughter’s murder, expressing his feelings of “complete and utter horror” as he grapples with the memories they have been deprived of making together. Despite feeling anger and hatred towards the perpetrators, he voiced the opinion that they should be locked up and forgotten about, emphasizing that they are “nothing.” The judge’s decision to make their names public was initially supported by Spooner, but he now believes that their names will forever be associated with Brianna’s, prompting a shift in his stance.

The murder, described by the court as a “sustained and violent assault” involving a hunting knife, shook the community of Culcheth near Warrington. The trial revealed the killers’ disturbing fascination with violence, torture, and murder, which led to the formation of a kill list targeting Brianna and four other teenagers. Throughout their trial and police interviews, Jenkinson and Ratcliffe each blamed the other for the heinous crime.

In reflection, Spooner found comfort in the outpouring of love for Brianna in the days following her murder, acknowledging her impact on many hearts. However, the grief and anger over her death continue to torment him, leaving him to lament the missed opportunities to protect her.

The heart-wrenching and tragic story of Brianna Ghey serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence, leaving loved ones grappling with unimaginable pain and loss.
