Father Seeks Answers After Son Killed in Indianapolis Bar Shootout

Indianapolis, Indiana – An early morning shootout outside a bar on the east side of Indianapolis has left one man dead and five others injured, including an IMPD officer. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday at the 1111 Bar & Grille on East Washington Street.

The situation unfolded when two off-duty IMPD officers working security at the bar ejected a patron following an altercation involving a woman inside. Shortly after, while attending to a medical emergency with an EMS crew, gunshots rang out in the parking lot, sparking chaos at the scene.

Multiple individuals, including the injured officer, were caught in the crossfire, with four people wounded and one man, Dominique Durham, found critically injured and later pronounced dead at Community East Hospital. Durham’s father, William Durham, expressed shock at his son’s involvement in the shooting, questioning the circumstances that led to his son being driven to the hospital in a private vehicle with fatal injuries.

As investigators work to piece together evidence and witness testimonies, the recovery of a firearm at the scene has raised questions about the events that transpired. IMPD Chief Christopher Bailey emphasized the ongoing efforts to analyze surveillance footage, body-worn camera videos, and ballistic evidence to determine the sequence of events accurately.

The incident has prompted IMPD to issue a ban on off-duty work at the 1111 Lounge and Fuzion Ultra Lounge, citing recent ownership changes as a factor in the decision. Despite the reinstatement of the bar’s liquor license pending appeal, the tragedy has left a community grieving and seeking answers amid the aftermath of the deadly shootout.
