Fort Worth, Texas – A man faces charges of murder in connection with the fentanyl-related death of a young man in Fort Worth. The individual, identified as 21-year-old Ramiro Limon, was charged with murder under the new fentanyl murder statute passed as HB 6 in Texas in May 2023.
The tragic incident prompted the grieving parents of the victim, Matthew Teran, to speak out about their loss and the implications of the case. Mayra Uribe, the mother, recounted the heartbreaking moment when she discovered her son unresponsive on the morning of Nov. 6, 2023, triggering immediate efforts to save him.
Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, Matthew succumbed to a fentanyl overdose at the age of 21. His parents emphasized his previous struggles with substance abuse but also highlighted his determination to overcome it before the fatal incident occurred. The arrest of Ramiro Limon, the alleged supplier of the fentanyl, came four months after Matthew’s untimely death.
According to Fort Worth Police, Limon was charged under the new statute for providing fentanyl to an individual whose death resulted from ingesting the substance. This development follows the enactment of House Bill 6, which specifically addresses cases involving fentanyl-related fatalities.
While discussing their son’s character, Matthew’s parents emphasized his compassion and resilience. They expressed support for efforts to hold accountable those responsible for supplying dangerous substances like fentanyl, emphasizing the importance of justice in combating drug-related tragedies.
The case has since been forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for further review and legal proceedings. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid known for its potency, remains a significant public health concern, contributing to a high number of overdose deaths across the country.
Authorities warn about the emergence of brightly colored fentanyl, also known as “rainbow fentanyl,” highlighting the strategic efforts of drug traffickers to target young individuals.
