Food truck owner killed in apparent stabbing in Niceville; Suspect in custody as victim’s friends and community mourn

NICEVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old man is in custody after the death of a small business owner in Niceville. The victim, Mike Ledford, 42, was the owner of the “My Ohana” food truck. He died at the hospital from what appears to be a stab wound.

Dylan Deschaine of Niceville was arrested Saturday and currently faces two counts of battery on an officer. Police have indicated that more charges are pending as the investigation continues. Although no one has been charged with murder at this time, Detective Sergeant Horace Pain has stated that other charges are being considered.

According to the Niceville Police, Deschaine and Ledford did not know each other. Ledford was found badly injured inside a truck at the Oak Creek Plaza, leading to a police investigation that ultimately resulted in Deschaine’s arrest. The suspect was located hiding in a gas station bathroom and taken into custody after negotiations with the police.

Friends and acquaintances expressed shock and sadness over Ledford’s death, describing him as a beloved member of the local community. Adrian Simmons, a childhood friend of Ledford’s, described him as family to the area, emphasizing his impact on those who knew him. The loss of Ledford has undoubtedly left a void in the neighborhood.

The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working with the State Attorney for further progress. Deschaine is currently being held in Okaloosa County Jail without bond and has received medical treatment for injuries to his hand.
