Hailey, Idaho — A local man faces significant legal consequences after a violent incident left his partner with severe injuries over the weekend. Jose Luis Huesca Aguilar, 48, could be sentenced to 30 years in prison and fined up to $100,000 following his arraignment on multiple felony charges.
Huesca Aguilar appeared in 5th District Court on charges of felony domestic battery with traumatic injury and felony attempted strangulation. In addition to these serious allegations, he faces two misdemeanor charges related to the destruction of a telecommunications line and driving under the influence, as detailed in court documents filed by Blaine County Prosecutor Matt Fredback.
According to an affidavit from Blaine County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Aidan Franscioni, law enforcement responded to a report of domestic violence around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They learned that Huesca Aguilar fled in a black pickup truck prior to their arrival.
Deputy Franscioni located a vehicle matching the description and stopped Huesca Aguilar near the intersection of Highway 75 and Woodside Boulevard. Upon exiting his vehicle, he was reportedly disheveled, reeking of alcohol, and exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and glassy eyes. He acknowledged drinking several alcoholic beverages that evening, yielding breathalyzer results of 0.172 and 0.174, far exceeding Idaho’s legal limit.
Meanwhile, two bystanders discovered the injured woman and were transporting her to the police station when they saw Huesca Aguilar’s truck pursuing them. According to Hailey Police Sgt. Gustavo Cervantes, the victim was heavily bleeding and unable to communicate due to a severe facial injury. She was first treated at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center and was later transferred to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise for further care.
After regaining consciousness, the victim recounted to officers that Huesca Aguilar had threatened to disfigure her and had physically assaulted her, leading to her injuries. She detailed how he bit her on multiple areas of her body and attempted to strangle her. In a desperate move to escape, she crawled to the sidewalk while calling out for help.
On Monday, Judge Jennifer Haemmerle set bail for Huesca Aguilar at $50,000 and issued a no-contact order with the victim. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing, and is currently represented by the State Public Defender’s Office, with Blaine County Deputy Prosecutor Stacie Summerhill handling the prosecution.
As of Thursday, Huesca Aguilar remains in custody at the Blaine County jail, where he is also being held under a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold, which could lead to further legal action regarding his immigration status.
