Hero of Monterey Park Shooting Hosts Community Remembrance Fair after Deadly Attack

ALHAMBRA, California – Brandon Tsay, hailed as a hero for disarming a gunman and saving dozens of lives in Monterey Park, is organizing a community remembrance fair on Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the tragic shooting.

Tsay bravely intervened when the gunman attempted to continue his killing spree at his family’s dance studio in Alhambra. His sister, Brenda Tsay, recounted the terrifying moment when the gunman pointed a gun at Brandon, but he managed to disarm the shooter and prevent further bloodshed.

The upcoming event aims to bring the community together and celebrate the strength and resilience shown in the face of tragedy. Brenda Tsay emphasized the importance of remembering the lives lost and the impact of the tragedy on the local community.

The shooting at the Star Ballroom in Monterey Park resulted in the tragic deaths of 11 dancers, leaving a lasting scar on the community. Shally Ung, who survived the ordeal by hiding under a table with her dance partner Andy Kao, shared her harrowing experience and the emotional toll of losing Kao in the shooting.

In honor of the victims, the community rallied together, with Ung dedicating the day’s sales at her Arcadia donut shop to the Monterey Park Hope Resiliency Center. The gesture of remembrance and support for the center’s work underscored the lasting impact of the tragedy on the community.

As the anniversary of the shooting approaches, the community continues to heal and commemorate the lives lost, showing resilience and strength in the face of adversity. The remembrance fair serves as a way to honor the victims and bring the community together to reflect on the past year’s challenges and the path toward healing and recovery.
