Jealous ex-boyfriend shoots 24-year-old Illinois woman to death

NEW BADEN, IL – An Illinois man has confessed to fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend during a heated confrontation, according to authorities. Emmet Metzger, 27, pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Alexis Maki, 24, in an incident that occurred in their shared apartment last November.

Metzger placed a haunting 911 call after the shooting, admitting to the dispatcher that he had shot Maki and needed to be arrested.

Documents reveal that Metzger used a 9 mm Taurus G2C pistol to fire multiple shots at Maki, striking her in several areas, including the neck and chest.

Despite their recent breakup, Metzger and Maki were still living together, bound by a lease in New Baden. Maki’s mother, Lisa Brock, stated that Metzger was overwhelmingly possessive and unhappy with Maki’s independence, contributing significantly to tension in the relationship.

Brock recalled a conversation with her daughter on the day of the incident, where Metzger had requested to see a dog they had adopted together. Brock expressed her concerns about the meeting, but Maki assured her that Metzger had vowed not to harm her.

Hours before the tragic event, police responded to a disturbance involving Metzger at a local bar in Lebanon. He allegedly attacked Giovanni Venuti, a coworker of Maki’s, leaving him with minor injuries.

Maki was remembered in her obituary as a compassionate individual who cherished her pets and was committed to helping others. Her sudden death has left an indelible mark on those who knew her, with loved ones highlighting her kindness and warm nature.

The case moves towards a conclusion, with Metzger facing a potential sentence of 45 years to life in prison. His sentencing is set for June 9, leaving the family and friends of Alexis Maki to await justice for a life abruptly ended by violence.
