Judge Attacked in Las Vegas Courtroom, Attacker Sentenced to Up to 4 Years

LAS VEGAS – A man who attacked a Las Vegas judge was sentenced Monday to up to four years in prison in an unrelated case. Deobra Delone Redden leapt over the bench and attacked Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus in her courtroom last week after trying to convince the judge that he was turning around his violent past.

The sentence handed down Monday was in connection with a baseball bat attack on a person last year. Redden stood in court in shackles with a mask on his face and orange mitts on his hands, flanked by a group of jail officers.

His lawyer, Caesar Almase, declined to comment outside the courtroom. In the attack last week, Redden had to be wrestled off the judge by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members — including some who were seen throwing punches. One courtroom marshal was hospitalized for treatment of a bleeding gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder.

The incident was a shocking display of violence in a courtroom, leaving courtroom staff members injured and requiring medical attention. The judge’s courtroom demeanor was also disrupted, causing fear and chaos among those present. The attacker, Redden, has been known for his violent tendencies, as demonstrated in the previous incident where he attacked a person with a baseball bat. The sentencing reflected the severity of his actions and served as a reminder of the consequences of violent behavior in the legal system.

In summary, the man who attacked a Las Vegas judge was sentenced to up to four years in prison for an unrelated case. The courtroom violence was a shocking and disruptive incident, causing injuries to courtroom staff and leading to a firm sentencing for the attacker. Such displays of violence in a legal setting serve as a reminder of the consequences of such actions in the justice system.
