VINE GROVE, KY – A Saturday night in central Kentucky took a violent turn after authorities say a man was involved in a physical assault just outside a neighborhood Dollar General, leaving a woman injured and sparking a police manhunt that continued into the early morning hours.
Law enforcement identified Donald Brown, 48, as the suspect in the alleged attack. According to jail records, Brown faces charges of first-degree strangulation related to domestic violence and fourth-degree domestic assault leading to minor injuries. Authorities confirmed Brown was booked into custody without bond following his arrest.
The incident began shortly after midnight, when a disagreement between Brown and a woman escalated in the parking lot of the discount retailer in Meade County. Relative quiet gave way to chaos as, according to police accounts, the two were inside a vehicle when an altercation turned violent.
The woman reported that during the confrontation she was strangled and ultimately fell from the car, hitting her head on the ground. Brown is accused of fleeing the scene immediately after the struggle. Still reeling from her injuries, the woman contacted emergency services, alerting Kentucky State Police to the domestic violence incident.
Officers soon learned Brown had retreated to his home on Jennings Knob Road in the nearby town of Vine Grove, roughly 45 miles south of Louisville. When authorities arrived at the residence, Brown reportedly refused to leave the property or speak with troopers.
Given the circumstances, law enforcement obtained both search and arrest warrants. Law enforcement maintained a presence at the home for several hours, and just after sunrise—around 7:30 a.m.—the standoff concluded with Brown’s arrest without further incident.
