Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. — On Monday morning, a tragic incident unfolded in Winterville, as the Athens-Clarke County Police Department reported a fatal shooting. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Willie Antonio Jewell, was found dead from a gunshot wound on the 1200 block of Athens Road.

Shortly after the shooting, authorities arrested 26-year-old Cedric Robbie Jones and charged him with murder. However, it remains unclear whether Jones and Jewell were acquainted prior to the tragic event. Jones is currently being held at the Athens-Clarke County Jail.
