MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee woman was shot and killed during a family altercation late Monday night, with the violent encounter streamed on Facebook Live, authorities said.
Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the shooting: a 15-year-old boy, a 21-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old girl. Officers stated that the shooting was linked to a heated family dispute.
Emergency crews responded around 11 p.m. to reports of gunfire near the 300 block of West Vliet Street. When first responders arrived, they found 29-year-old Ashley Hudson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Relatives of Hudson said the harrowing incident was broadcast live on Facebook by someone who witnessed the confrontation from a nearby balcony. The video, which subsequently circulated across social media, shocked family members who learned of Ashley’s death online before official notification.
Savannah Hudson, Ashley’s cousin, described the trauma of seeing the shooting unfold over social media. “Just imagine waking up on social media and seeing your family member had just been shot,” she said.
Friends and supporters organized a vigil for Ashley Hudson on the street where she died, lamenting both her sudden loss and the manner in which the tragedy gained public attention. Some at the scene said the video could offer crucial evidence for investigators.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect raise a firearm toward Ashley and hearing her plead, “Don’t shoot me,” before shots rang out. After being struck, she collapsed to the ground as onlookers watched in horror.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office has received referrals for criminal charges against the detained suspects, though officials said Wednesday the case remains under review and have yet to announce the specific counts being considered.
The incident has renewed concerns about the role of social media in violent crimes and the impact of live broadcasts on victims’ families and the wider community as they process unimaginable loss.
Ashley Hudson’s death remains under investigation as police work to determine what sparked the deadly argument and how such a family quarrel escalated to gunfire.
Authorities urged anyone with additional information or video evidence to come forward as they continue to gather details.
