Murder-Suicide Tragedy Strikes Queens Home: Man Shoots Girlfriend in Head Before Turning Gun on Himself

Jamaica, Queens, New York – A tragic incident unfolded when a 38-year-old man, identified as Joseph Murphy, shot his girlfriend, Kenisha Mirrison, in the head before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide, as reported by authorities on Saturday.

The grim discovery was made by police responding to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on 143rd St. near Glassboro Ave. in the Jamaica neighborhood around 2:45 p.m. on Friday. Both Murphy and Mirrison were found lifeless inside the home, each having suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

Upon investigation, law enforcement recovered a handgun near Murphy’s body, leading them to believe he was responsible for fatally shooting Mirrison before turning the gun on himself in a tragic end to what appears to be ongoing domestic issues between the couple.

Although authorities are treating the incident as a murder-suicide, they are awaiting the results of an autopsy before making further conclusions, according to a police source familiar with the case. This tragic event marks the latest in a series of similar violent acts within romantic relationships in New York City in recent months.

Notably, this incident follows the deaths of Luz Maribel Espinal, Jason Jackson, Olga Kirshenbaum, a total of three separate murder-suicides within three months across the five boroughs. Each of these cases involved a partner shooting their significant other before taking their own life, leaving a trail of heartbreak and disbelief in their wake.

As authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic events, community members and advocates are left grappling with the devastating impact of domestic violence and the profound loss of life that occurs as a result. The need for support services, awareness, and intervention strategies to prevent such senseless acts of violence remains a pressing concern for many.
