LEVITTOWN, PA – The trial has commenced for a Pennsylvania man accused of the gruesome beheading of his father, with shocking allegations that the accused posted images of the crime on social media.
Justin Mohn, 33, faces multiple charges including first- and second-degree murder. Authorities allege that on January 30, 2024, Mohn fatally shot his 68-year-old father, Michael Mohn, before decapitating him. During a disturbing online broadcast, Mohn allegedly displayed his father’s severed head wrapped in plastic, claiming it was due to his father’s betrayal of the country.
Michael Mohn, who had been semi-retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was discovered deceased by his wife, Denice Mohn. Her emotional testimony described finding her husband’s body, recounting the horror she felt upon the discovery. “I believe I screamed,” she told the court, describing her call to emergency services.
Denice testified about changes in her son’s behavior after he returned to Pennsylvania from Colorado. She indicated that he appeared to have suffered an emotional breakdown, often sending hostile messages.
Concerns over Justin’s struggles with employment and his increasing frustration with the government were mentioned. The parents had attempted to support him, covering various expenses, including mental health assistance, to aid in his job search.
Despite this support, Denice had no prior indication of Justin’s alleged anti-government leanings until alerted by police about his social media activities. Officers had warned her to advise Justin to cease his online posts or face arrest, which she described as a significant warning.
On the day of the murder, the family had shared lunch together, anticipating Justin’s upcoming job interview, which they saw as a turning point. Unbeknownst to them, Justin had used his father’s car to purchase the firearm allegedly involved in the killing.
The trial continues as the defense and prosecution present their cases, with the community closely watching a legal battle filled with harrowing accusations and personal tragedy.
