Police Officer Stabbed in Violent Attack at Phoenix Gas Station by Trespassing Suspect

Phoenix, Arizona – A Phoenix Police officer is currently recovering in the hospital after being violently attacked and stabbed by a suspect accused of trespassing at a QuikTrip early Sunday morning. The incident took place at a gas station near 17th Avenue and Bell Road, where the officer was responding to escort an unwanted individual from the store.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky, the officer was informing the man that he was no longer allowed on the property when the suspect pulled out a knife and attacked the officer. Despite the attack, store employees intervened to help the officer and subdue the suspect until more officers arrived on the scene to take the suspect into custody.

The officer sustained serious injuries, including a stab wound to the neck, but fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening. However, the officer, who has been with the department for about six months, narrowly avoided a life-threatening situation.

Interim Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan expressed gratitude for the injured officer’s stable condition and emphasized that such violent attacks on officers cannot become the norm. The community is urged to keep the officer in their thoughts as he recovers in the hospital.

Phoenix Police Commander Matt Siekmann highlighted that issues in the area are not uncommon, as officers are routinely addressing various quality of life and criminal issues in the vicinity. The injured officer had previously volunteered before joining the force.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old John Liddell Jr., was booked into jail on multiple felony charges after being released from the hospital. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

In a statement following the incident, QuikTrip spokesperson Aisha Jefferson emphasized the company’s commitment to safety and cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and support the safety of employees, customers, and the areas they serve.

The incident involving the officer’s attack comes just days after another Phoenix Police officer was shot during an armed robbery on March 29. Subsequently, three individuals, including two teenagers, were arrested in connection to the incident. The Phoenix Police Department continues to address and respond to public safety concerns in the area.
