Robbery Suspect Sentenced to 11-16.5 Years in Akron Aggravated Robbery Case

AKRON, Ohio – A man from Akron, Ohio has been sentenced to 11 to 16.5 years in prison for his involvement in an aggravated robbery that resulted in the shooting death of 21-year-old Tyreaye Carter in December of 2020, according to the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim was shot multiple times and had his jewelry stolen while sitting in a car. The prosecutor’s office identified Kashmair Mingo, Javion Rankin, and Dorell Davis as the three suspects involved in the shooting and robbery.

Following a trial in December 2023, Davis, 24, was found guilty of aggravated robbery and sentenced to 11 to 16.5 years in prison. Mingo, 24, is currently serving a life sentence after being found guilty of murder with a gun specification, aggravated robbery with a gun specification, obstructing justice, and having a weapon under disability. Rankin, on the other hand, received a three-year community control sentence after being found guilty of a separate robbery that occurred the day after the aggravated robbery and murder. However, he is currently out of prison and is on 24-7 monitoring.

The prosecutor’s office detailed the charges Rankin faced in relation to the aggravated robbery and murder, which included aggravated murder with a gun specification, two counts of murder with gun specifications, aggravated robbery with a gun specification, and having a weapon under disability.
