ROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan – The mother of a school shooter, Jennifer Crumbley, was seen breaking down in tears as disturbing details of the fatal shooting at Oxford High School emerged during her trial. Ethan Crumbley, her son, was responsible for killing four students on November 30, 2021, and Jennifer Crumbley has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors have claimed that Jennifer and her husband purchased the gun used in the shooting, which ultimately killed four students. Both parents have pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges and have insisted that the gun was “locked.”
During the trial, the court heard testimony from Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Timothy Willis, who detailed Ethan’s path during the shooting. Surveillance video of the shooting was shown, depicting the horrifying moments during the tragedy. As the details were revealed, Jennifer was seen visibly weeping, and at one point, even put her hands on her face and started lightly rocking back and forth in her seat.
In an emotional testimony, Jennifer revealed her nervousness and admitted that public speaking was her biggest fear. She also spoke about her son’s mental health issues, stating that she thought she created a space for him to talk about any problems he might have had.
Shocking testimony from Jennifer’s horse trainer, Kira Pennock, was also heard during the trial, providing insight into Jennifer and Ethan’s relationship. Pennock testified that Jennifer had called her son “weird” and had referred to him as an “oopsie baby,” expressing a desire for him to do “normal kid things.”
Ethan, who admitted to planning and carrying out the shooting in his journal, was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole. His journal entries revealed his disturbing intentions and showed evidence of his premeditation.
