Burnsville, Minnesota – State investigators have revealed shocking new details from the tragic Burnsville shooting, highlighting the harrowing events that unfolded early Sunday. Shannon Gooden, the shooter, reportedly launched a sudden attack on officers inside his residence, firing over 100 rifle rounds without warning. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed the existence of body camera and squad footage related to the incident, shedding light on the intense confrontation.

The incident began when police responded to a report of a sexual assault at a residence on the 12600 block of 33rd Avenue in Burnsville just before 2 a.m. Gooden, who was inside the home with children, initially refused to leave and claimed to be unarmed. Despite negotiations lasting approximately 3 1/2 hours, Gooden abruptly opened fire on the officers inside the home, injuring several of them.

Officers Matthew Ruge, Paul Elmstrand, and Adam Medlicott were shot during the confrontation, with Medlicott and Officer Daniel Wical returning fire. The situation escalated as Gooden continued to fire at officers from inside the home, prompting a prolonged standoff. The tension came to a tragic end when Gooden took his own life, ending the violence but leaving a devastating aftermath.
