Shooting in Walmart Leaves One Dead, Child Injured: Search for Suspect Continues

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. – Tragedy struck a Walmart store in Fayetteville, Georgia, when a 19-year-old man was fatally shot and a 9-year-old girl was wounded on Friday evening.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the entryway of the Walmart located on Pavillion Parkway, authorities stated. Upon arrival, law enforcement found Antavius Holton, 19, and the young girl with gunshot injuries.

The suspected shooter, identified as Adrian Jelks, 19, was reported to be an employee at the Walmart where the incident took place. Both Holton and the injured girl were transported to a hospital, but sadly, Holton succumbed to his injuries, while the young girl remains in stable condition.

City of Fayetteville Public Safety emphasized that the shooting was not random nor an active-shooter situation. Officials are actively searching for Jelks, who fled the scene in a car that was later found abandoned.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities still seeking to locate Jelks. In the meantime, a 19-year-old woman, Sandra Romero-Nunez, has been arrested on pending warrants for her alleged involvement in the crime.
