SARASOTA, Fla. — A tragic shooting incident has left five individuals dead in Sarasota, while two others were killed in Fort Lauderdale, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has identified Russel Kot as the primary suspect in these shootings. He had been living with Larisa Blyudaya, daughter of one of the victims, until their separation late last year. Despite their former relationship, detectives found no evidence on Kot’s cellphone suggesting any conflict or triggering event related to the family prior to the violence.
In the months leading up to the shootings, Kot had frequented the Blyudaya family home. Reports indicate he cared for the family’s pets and interacted with their housekeeper, Olga Greinert, at least once. After allegedly killing Greinert and Larisa’s brother, Yaroslav Blyudoy, Kot sent a disturbing text to his family, expressing suicidal intent.
Kot remained at the residence until the return of Larisa’s parents, Florita Stolyar and Anatoly Ioffe. Once they arrived at their home, both were shot and killed by Kot, who subsequently turned the gun on himself. Authorities confirmed that each of the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
A search of Kot’s vehicle yielded significant evidence, including two handguns, ammunition, five knives, rope, tape, and an axe. These items were in addition to the two handguns he carried when he entered the residence. Inside the home, law enforcement recovered more than 20 shell casings, painting a grim picture of the events that transpired.
The investigation remains active, with both the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Lauderdale police continuing to piece together the timeline and circumstances surrounding these tragedies.
