Suspect in NYC Subway Attack with Severed Feet Previously Convicted for Stabbing Mom and Threatening Child: Police

New York City, New York – A 35-year-old man has been arrested for a violent attack on his girlfriend that resulted in her feet being severed by an incoming subway train. Christian Valdez, the suspect, had a criminal history that involved a previous assault in 2017. Police reported that Valdez had attacked a woman and threatened her child during a home invasion incident.

The New York Police Department stated that Valdez was apprehended following a domestic violence incident at the Fulton Street subway station in lower Manhattan. The suspect was found and captured in lower Manhattan about eleven hours after the attack at the subway station. It was revealed that Valdez listed his address as a women’s homeless shelter in Brooklyn.

Valdez is now facing charges of attempted murder and felony assault in connection with the subway station incident. The violent episode occurred during an argument on the platform, leading to the victim being pushed onto the subway tracks by Valdez. The 29-year-old victim was struck by a southbound No. 3 train and suffered severe injuries, resulting in both of her feet being amputated.

Following the incident, the victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition. Local authorities found the victim conscious and responsive at the scene, but with injuries to her legs caused by the train. Valdez is set to face arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, though details regarding legal representation were not immediately available.

Prior to this incident, Valdez had a criminal record that included a violent attack in 2017 where he broke into an apartment in the Bronx borough. During that incident, he assaulted a woman and threatened her child, prompting intervention from neighbors who managed to rescue the child from harm. Valdez was convicted of assault and sentenced to prison, but had been released on parole before the recent subway station attack.

The harrowing incident shed light on the challenges of addressing domestic violence and the need for preventative measures to protect victims from repeat offenders. The case also raised questions about parole protocols and ensuring the safety of the community when individuals with violent histories are released back into society. Authorities urged anyone witnessing domestic violence or suspicious behavior to report it promptly to prevent further tragedies.
