Teenager Arrested in Connection with Shooting Death of 14-Year-Old Rankin County Student

JACKSON, Miss. – The recent arrest of a third teenager in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old student in Rankin County has brought further developments to the case. Siyaski Crawford, 15, is the latest individual arrested and is being held on a $1.5 million bond, alongside 16-year-old Maxle Mooneyham, who also faces similar charges. Meanwhile, John Foote, 17, has been charged with murder and is being held without bond, with the possibility of a fourth arrest looming, according to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade.

The victim, Cameron Horne-Crook, was discovered shot to death at a residence on Ridgecrest Drive, leaving his family devastated and searching for answers. His mother, Violet Horne, suspects foul play, believing that Mooneyham had a hand in luring her son to the location where the tragic incident occurred. Horne revealed that her son and the suspects had previously attended an alternative school together, adding to the complexity of the situation. Despite the arrests, the motive behind Cameron’s killing remains unclear.

During the court proceedings, an investigator disclosed that the 14-year-old was fatally shot multiple times in the upper torso. Mooneyham allegedly disposed of the body on the street before driving the truck back to Rankin County, where evidence related to the crime was reportedly tampered with. Authorities have stated that Mooneyham could potentially face more severe charges, including capital murder, as the investigation progresses.

Northwest Rankin Middle School, where Cameron was a student, released a statement expressing condolences to his family and friends amid the tragic loss. The Rankin County School District has also made counselors available to provide support to both students and staff members impacted by the heartbreaking event. As the community grapples with this senseless act of violence, the pursuit of justice for Cameron remains at the forefront of the ongoing investigation.
