Tragedy Strikes Clay County: Man Charged with First-Degree Murder After Shooting Six, Including Child and Local Pastor

Clay County, Mississippi — A suspect has been detained on first-degree murder charges in connection with the shooting deaths of six individuals, including a child, during a violent incident on Friday night. Authorities say Daricka Moore, 24, allegedly targeted several family members and a local pastor before being arrested, according to Sheriff Eddie Scott.

At a news briefing held Saturday, Sheriff Scott outlined the horrific events that unfolded. Investigators believe Moore began the deadly spree by shooting his father, brother, and uncle at their home just before 7 p.m. The victims were identified as Glen Moore, 67; Willie Guines, 55; and Quinton Moore, 33. Following these attacks, Moore is said to have traveled to another location where a seven-year-old girl was also shot after he allegedly attempted to assault her.

District Attorney Scott Colom characterized the murders as devastating, calling the case one of the most challenging he has encountered in his 30 years of service. He indicated that charges against Moore could soon be upgraded to capital murder, and prosecutors are considering the death penalty, pending an evaluation of his mental fitness.

Emergency services responded to calls from the initial crime scene on David Hill Road and later discovered the girl’s body at a different residence on Blake Road, where Moore is alleged to have forcibly entered. The circumstances surrounding these killings, particularly the shooting of the young girl, have left the community in shock. “I can’t fathom what drives someone to harm a child,” Sheriff Scott stated.

After the incidents, authorities tracked Moore down in a stolen Ford F-150 truck, which belonged to his deceased brother. He was apprehended just before midnight at an intersection. The sheriff confirmed that other victims, Barry and Samuel Bradley, were found at a third location, where one of the men served as a pastor. The nature of the relationship between the Bradleys and Moore remains unclear.

Officials have yet to disclose a motive for the killings, raising questions about the circumstances that led to such a tragic event. “It’s a real blow to our community,” Scott emphasized, expressing concern for the residents affected by the violence.

Autopsies for the victims have been scheduled by the Mississippi crime lab. Moore is expected to have his initial court appearance on Monday, at which point more details may emerge regarding the case and potential next steps in the prosecution.
