Turn in Plainview: Five Lives Lost in Texas Panhandle Mass Shooting

PLAINVIEW, Texas — A tragic mass shooting early Saturday left five individuals dead in a neighborhood in the Texas Panhandle, including the suspected shooter. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent questions about safety and the motives behind such violence.

Authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the shooting occurred around 3:40 a.m. in the 2700 block of Upchurch Street, situated in the Seth Ward neighborhood near Plainview, which is approximately 45 minutes north of Lubbock. The local sheriff’s office requested assistance from the Texas Rangers shortly after the first reports of gunfire.

Four of the deceased were found on the scene. They have been identified as Hector Alonso Sanchez, 28; Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 30; Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, 47; and Saul Villa, 33, who was also identified as the shooter. A fifth victim, Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, 21, was transported to Covenant Hospital in Plainview, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with law enforcement officials working to determine the motives behind the attack. Although details are still emerging, authorities emphasized that there is currently no threat to public safety.
