Unsolved Topeka Quadruple Murder Continues to Haunt Community After 10 Years

TOPEKA, Kan. – A decade has passed since a devastating crime shook central Topeka. On December 1, 2013, the bodies of Carla Avery, her ex-husband Marvin Woods, her brother Eric Avery, and their friend Tamesha Lee were discovered in a tragic quadruple murder case. The investigation into their deaths continues to this day, with authorities still seeking answers and closure for the families involved.

The unsolved case was recently featured in the Kansas Department of Corrections’ “Cold Case Deck,” a project aimed at shedding light on unsolved homicide and missing persons cases in the hopes of generating valuable tips from individuals in jails and prisons. Despite the passage of time, law enforcement remains committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their loved ones.

The Topeka Police Department, in partnership with the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Investigator, is actively working to solve the case.
