Venezuelan Immigrant Charged with Attempted Murder After Violent Beach Assault in Florida

STUART, Fla. — A 26-year-old man from Venezuela is in custody, facing serious charges after an alleged assault on a woman at a local beach that left her fighting for her life. The incident unfolded late Thursday night as the woman was out for a walk along Tiger Shore Beach.

According to authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was engaged in a phone conversation with a relative when she became the target of an attack by Said Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez. Reports indicate he approached her from behind, struck her, and forcibly pushed her into the ocean in an attempt to drown her.

During the violent encounter, the victim lost consciousness. After Hernandez Gonzalez allegedly believed she was dead, he discarded her phone into the water and fled the scene.

Upon regaining consciousness, the woman managed to make her way more than a mile to Stuart Beach, where she located a deputy and reported the incident. This led to an extensive investigation, as deputies spent the next two days canvassing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and seeking out potential witnesses.

Hints of Hernandez Gonzalez’s involvement surfaced when Port St. Lucie police notified deputies that they were responding to a call about a suicidal individual. The man reportedly confessed to having killed a woman at Martin County beach.

Interrogated by investigators, Hernandez Gonzalez admitted to observing the woman alone on the beach and expressed that her presence had incited anger, prompting him to attack. He recounted that he attempted to drown her but ceased when he thought she had succumbed.

Following the incident, he stated that he retreated to his vehicle, where he consumed marijuana and vodka before leaving the area. When questioned about his feelings regarding the attack, he reportedly showed no remorse, saying he felt nothing.

Hernandez Gonzalez has been charged with attempted murder and is currently detained at the Martin County Jail. Immigration officials have placed a hold on him, indicating he may face additional legal action related to his immigration status.

The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing concerns around public safety and the challenges facing law enforcement in responding to violent crimes. As the investigation continues, the community awaits further developments in this alarming incident.
