Violent Attack on Turkish Cypriot Youths During Troodos Trip Raises Concerns Over Lack of Police Involvement

NICOSIA, Cyprus – A group of Turkish Cypriot youths, aged 20, were reportedly subjected to a violent attack during a trip to Troodos, according to a report by Turkish Cypriot media. The incident, which took place on Sunday (18/02), has raised concerns about the safety of Turkish Cypriots in the area.

According to the report by Kibris Postasi, the Turkish Cypriot group had stopped at Platanias to take photos on their return when they were confronted by a group of Greek Cypriots in a park. The situation quickly escalated as the Greek Cypriots allegedly made gestures towards the Turkish Cypriot cars and attacked them with stones and sticks wrapped in the Greek flag.

The altercation intensified, leading to a reported manhunt in the forest and resulting in a savage beating of one Turkish Cypriot who slipped and fell. Despite seeking help from passing drivers, the victims received little assistance, raising questions about the lack of intervention by law enforcement.

After the attack, the eight Turkish Cypriots sought medical treatment at a local hospital in the occupied areas. However, as of now, no official complaint has been filed with the Cyprus Police, sparking concerns about the reported incident and the lack of police involvement.

The incident has further strained the already tense relations between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities on the island. It has also prompted calls for authorities to take action to ensure the safety and protection of all residents, regardless of their ethnic background.

As the story continues to develop, many are closely watching to see if there will be any official response from the Cyprus Police or other relevant authorities. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unresolved tensions and potential risks faced by individuals in the region.
