NEW YORK – A woman in Brooklyn was the victim of a horrifying home invasion and rape over the weekend, the NYPD reported Monday.
The 49-year-old woman was attacked by two men who forcibly entered her home in Sunset Park around 6 p.m. on Saturday. One of the men proceeded to rape her before both assailants fled the scene, leaving the victim in need of medical attention. She was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
The NYPD has released surveillance photos of the two intruders, describing them as men in their 30s, approximately 5 feet 9 to 6 feet tall. One was wearing a hoodie with light-colored pants, while the other was dressed in black pants, a white coat, and a wool hat. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline.
According to NYPD data, reported cases of rape in the city have decreased compared to the previous year, with 1,401 rapes reported as of December 17, 2023, marking a nearly 11% decrease from the same time in 2022.
Despite the overall decline, there was a slight increase in reported rapes during the week of December 11 to December 17, 2023, when there were 25 reports, compared to 23 in the same week in 2022. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges of ensuring safety and security in the community, prompting law enforcement to appeal for any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
