Bee Sting Leads to Man’s Multiple Organ Failure and Narrow Escape from Death

Mogadishu, Somalia – A 60-year-old man in Somalia experienced a life-threatening situation after being stung by a giant honey bee. Initially, the man was stung multiple times, but it wasn’t until two days later that he began to exhibit severe symptoms. Medical professionals at the Mogadishu Somali Turkey Training and Research Hospital documented this as the first known case of multi-organ failure resulting from a giant honey bee sting in Somalia. Following the incident, the man sought medical attention due to symptoms such as shortness of breath and difficulty urinating. Upon examination, doctors observed red marks across his body, swelling, puffy eyes, and breathing difficulties. Further tests revealed acute liver and kidney injury, along with bilateral pulmonary edema – the accumulation of fluid in both lungs.

The medical team initiated a comprehensive treatment plan for the man, including steroids, antihistamines, and intravenous fluids. Fortunately, the patient responded positively to the treatment and showed significant improvement, eventually being discharged after a week of care. The successful recovery marked a critical milestone in his journey back to health.
