BATON ROUGE, La. – The beginning of the new year has been marred by a series of shooting incidents in Baton Rouge, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others.
According to authorities, the shootings occurred in different locations within the city, including a drive-by shooting that spanned multiple blocks and streets in Baton Rouge. The first incident took place before 2 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2024, near West Brookstown Dr. and Evangeline St.
Three individuals were shot on Evangeline St., resulting in the death of a teenager while two others were transported to a hospital. In a separate incident, another teenager was shot and injured on Victory Dr., just one block away from Evangeline St. Additionally, an adult was shot and injured on Linden St., with all three scenes located within a mile’s distance of each other.
Altogether, five individuals were shot, with four of them in stable condition after being transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, one person succumbed to their injuries.
