Explosion Survivor Awarded for Leadership at Pre-School

Seven Sisters, Neath Port Talbot – A resilient woman who survived a devastating gas explosion that left her with life-altering injuries has earned recognition for her exceptional work as a leader within a pre-school group. Jessica Williams, 34, endured severe burns covering 70% of her body and spent a month in a coma after her residence was obliterated by the explosion in 2020.

Despite the immense challenges she faced, Jessica’s remarkable perseverance and dedication led to her being honored as the higher apprentice of the year for her role as a pre-school leader at Ser Bach y Cwm nursery in Ystradgynlais. The event, organized by the Welsh government and supported by the National Training Federation for Wales (NTFW), celebrated individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields.

Following the life-altering incident that occurred in June 2020, where she was trapped under rubble with a fridge pinning her against a wall, Jessica’s two young sons also suffered burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Jessica acknowledged the profound impact it had on her life, emphasizing that the apprenticeship she pursued through ACT Training enabled her to not only recover but to thrive and establish a successful career.

Among the distinguished winners was Dr. Ali J Wright, who transformed her passion for rescuing old furniture into a thriving upholstery business, Needle Rock, in Llanrhystud near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. Dr. Wright’s remarkable journey from a former UK government plant health inspector to a successful business owner highlights the transformative power of pursuing one’s passion.
