HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man accused of violently attacking an 83-year-old great-grandmother during a carjacking in the Aldine area has been apprehended by Harris County sheriff’s deputies. Quinton Montgomery was captured on Monday night, five days after ABC13 initially aired videos of the disturbing incident. The attack took place outside a La Michoacana grocery store on Aldine Mail Route Road, where Lydia Sanchez was pulled out of her car, assaulted, and injured.
Sanchez, the brave great-grandmother, displayed resilience and fought back against her assailant, who fled with her vehicle and purse containing a significant amount of cash. Despite the bruising on her leg worsening since the attack, Sanchez stated that she was feeling better but had difficulty walking and experienced rib pain.
Upon the broadcast of the surveillance footage on ABC13, several individuals came forward with information about the suspect. As a result, deputies were able to track down and apprehend the 35-year-old suspect in a hotel room at America’s Best Value Inn off FM-1960 Road West on Monday night. The suspect, who was identified with the help of tips from Crime Stoppers, eventually surrendered without incident.
During a probable cause court appearance, prosecutors revealed that Montgomery had outstanding warrants for assaulting his siblings and was considered a habitual offender. The judge highlighted his extensive criminal record, warning him of the serious consequences he could face if convicted in the latest case involving his brother.
Currently held without bond, Montgomery is expected to face charges related to Lydia Sanchez’s case, with investigators indicating that there may be additional victims. The Sanchez family expressed relief at the news of the suspect’s arrest, emphasizing their confidence that justice would be served.
“I knew very soon he would be caught,” said Lee Sanchez, the great-grandmother’s son, reflecting the family’s hope for resolution and accountability in the wake of the traumatic event.
