MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A 39-year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a 44-year-old woman in their shared apartment. Prosecutors allege that Mile Dukić killed Amanda Varisco and then sent alarming messages to her child before law enforcement arrived on the scene.
On February 5, police responded to a distress call from one of Varisco’s children after receiving concerning texts. Upon arrival at a residence on West National Avenue, authorities discovered Varisco unresponsive, having sustained multiple stab wounds.
Dukić faces charges of first-degree murder along with felony bail jumping. According to court documents, he reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed in a message to Varisco’s daughter his actions and motivations behind the murder. Prosecutors assert that a heated argument leading to the stabbing erupted after Varisco’s phone rang, prompting Dukić to strike her multiple times before using a knife to inflict fatal wounds.
Medical examinations revealed that Varisco had suffered at least 22 stab wounds. Dukić’s legal troubles are compounded by prior instances of bail jumping and harassment, which are referenced in the indictment.
The court has scheduled Dukić’s next appearance for Tuesday. Meanwhile, Varisco’s family is organizing a fundraiser to cover her funeral expenses—a somber reminder of the tragedy that has befallen their household. The community has expressed shock and grief over the incident, highlighting ongoing concerns about domestic violence.
As investigations continue, authorities stress the importance of addressing and preventing such acts of violence. The charges against Dukić serve as a stark reminder of the often-hidden struggles surrounding domestic relationships. In light of this event, local activists are once again calling for increased awareness and resources to support victims of domestic abuse.
This case, still unfolding, has galvanized the community’s resolve to confront the complexities of violence in intimate relationships.
