Shooting of 10-Year-Old Boy in Sacramento County Leaves Community Reeling

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A 10-year-old boy, Keith Frierson, was tragically shot and killed over the weekend by another child, prompting an outpouring of grief and remembrance from his loved ones. The shooting took place outside the family’s apartment, where Keith was fatally wounded by a young boy he had played with in the past.

The incident occurred after a bike race, in which Keith was participating with other kids he considered friends. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, leading to the arrest of a 10-year-old boy and his father, identified as 53-year-old Arkete Davis, in connection to the shooting. Investigators revealed that the 10-year-old child obtained a gun from Davis’ vehicle and used it to fatally shoot Keith.

Keith’s mother, Brittani Frierson, expressed deep sorrow and disbelief over the tragic event, vowing to seek justice for her son. At a vigil held in Keith’s honor, loved ones described him as a loving, selfless, and active child who loved sports, particularly football. His coaches and godmother shared their fond memories of Keith, emphasizing his positive and respectful nature.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that the gun used in the shooting was reported stolen in 2017, and that Davis, a felon, should not have been in possession of a firearm. The 10-year-old suspected shooter has been charged with murder and was taken to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, while Davis faces several felony gun-related charges, as well as child endangerment and accessory after the fact.

As the investigation continues, family members and the community collectively mourn the loss of Keith, remembering him as a sweet and vibrant soul. The tragic incident has prompted a plea for accountability and reflection, as loved ones seek to come to terms with the devastating loss of a young life.
