Las Vegas, Nevada — A shooting on the Las Vegas Strip claimed the lives of two content creators, igniting a flood of 911 calls that captured the chaos of the scene Sunday night. The incident unfolded outside the Bellagio Hotel and Casino just before 11 p.m., leaving the community in shock.
Audio recordings of the emergency calls reveal the urgency and disbelief of witnesses as they reported the violence. One caller described the situation, saying, “This is an emergency, we’re at the Bellagio. There’s a shooting … I think someone’s dead because they are doing CPR.” In contrast, another caller, who reported the incident while watching a live stream on YouTube, relayed that the shooting occurred as they watched events unfold from across the street.
Authorities identified Manuel Ruiz, a 41-year-old YouTube creator based in Las Vegas, as the shooter. He is alleged to have shot and killed 44-year-old Rodney Finley and his 34-year-old wife, Tanisha Finley. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Hours later, Ruiz voluntarily surrendered to police in Henderson.
Friends of the Finleys revealed that the couple was also involved in content creation on YouTube and had an ongoing feud with Ruiz. A friend, Derek Ware, stated, “This was brewing for two years,” highlighting the animosity that had escalated between the involved parties.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the shooting was captured live on Rodney’s YouTube channel. In the video, Tanisha confronts Ruiz just before the shots were fired, adding a tragic layer to the already heart-wrenching incident.
Ruiz later told investigators that he acted in self-defense, claiming that Rodney reached for his waistband and that Tanisha was holding what he described as “a shiny black object,” which he believed was a firearm. This assertion raises questions about the tense circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Facing two counts of open murder, Ruiz remains in police custody without the option of bail. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson indicated that prosecutors may pursue the death penalty, given the severity of the charges against him.
