Violent Las Vegas Felon Deobra Redden Moved to Solitary Confinement After Brutal Attack on Judge

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Deobra Redden, a 30-year-old serial felon, was placed in solitary confinement following a violent outburst in a Las Vegas court. Redden launched himself at Judge Mary Kay Holthus with expletives as she rejected his pleas for more probation, resulting in a physical altercation captured on court video.

Holthus was slammed against the wall during the incident and suffered injuries, while a court marshal and a law clerk were also injured. Redden, who has a history of violent offenses, has now been classified as a ‘2C’ inmate, the most restrictive category in the Clark County Jail.

Redden’s violent outburst came after he admitted trying to kill Judge Holthus because he was having a ‘bad day’, according to court documents viewed by KLAS. Redden will now have no interactions with other inmates and will eat alone inside his cell with extremely limited outside time while in solitary confinement.

Redden’s criminal history includes charges for battery, robbery, assault, and injury to property in both Nevada and Texas. He has a history of violence dating back at least 12 years, repeatedly serving jail time, parole, and probation for various offenses. The judge involved in the incident is currently being monitored for her injuries.

In a statement, Las Vegas District Court commended the heroic acts of the staff and law enforcement who subdued the defendant and expressed a commitment to reviewing and enhancing courthouse safety protocols. Any further updates on the case will be made as necessary.
