Kyiv, Ukraine – A viral image online claiming to show smoke rising from the headquarters of Ukraine’s security service after a missile strike by Russia has been proven false. The photo circulating on social media actually captures the collapse of port silos in Beirut, Lebanon, following a fire in August 2022, not an attack in Kyiv.
In response to the misinformation, Ukrainian media reported that Russian-occupied Crimea launched two ballistic missiles towards Kyiv targeting the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) offices on March 25. Fortunately, the Ukrainian Air Force intercepted both missiles, preventing any damage to the SBU base.
Despite the intercepted missiles, images circulated online show the aftermath of the attack in Kyiv. Emergency workers can be seen assessing the damage caused by the debris that fell in central Kyiv on March 25.
